“I have spent years looking for real Delhi-style Chhola Bhatura in Ahmedabad. I always got a giant balloon of a poori masquerading as a Bhatura. And chana masala pretending to be Chhole. Bhatura needs to have holey spongy webbed well-fermented structure on the inside. Chhole needs to be almost black, almost dry; not yellow, not oily, not a runny chana curry. I was looking for the chhola bhatura that you get at places like Sita Ram Diwan Chand in Paharganj, Delhi. i had almost given up. Then I found House Of Delhi in Vastrapur. Step into this tiny humble place. A few tables with plastic chairs. No drama. No pretence at fancy service. No fancy plating. Just good food on disposable plates. See the close-up pics in the slides. I might as well have been in Paharganj. And you are transported to Paharganj or Lajpat Nagar in Delhi. Just 6 items on the menu. No book-length menu with hundreds of items. “I tried the Rajma Chawal, but it was very disappointing. The taste was not good at all, and the rajma was extremely watery, which spoiled the dish. The quantity was also not worth the price. Overall, I had a very bad experience, and I will never visit again. I would not recommend this place based on my experience.”
